We are Expanding our Campaigning. Can You Help?
By LDER executive
We're looking for:
- Volunteer help and
to help us increase our campaigning to bring about - this time - proportional representation for UK public elections.
- Maximising involvement in national grassroots action days for fair and equal votes
- Supporting our MPs and peers in opposing the anti-democratic agenda of the Tory Government (such as the Elections Act)
- Staging member zoom and party fringe meetings
- Boosting our online presence
- Networking with other parties and cross-party reform organisations
LDER is busier than ever. And with a crunch General Election soon (maybe very soon…) we are upping our game still further. All we need is more resources!
We have identified these volunteer roles for our campaign team:
Local Media Coordinator
This position is focused on getting increased coverage in local media publications in your area. You would be working with local PR campaigners, including cross-party campaigners from our democracy allies (such as Make Votes Matter, Electoral Reform Society, Unlock Democracy and others), to coordinate material to be written and sent to local newspapers.
Due to the focus on educating local readers on why we need 'equal vote,' the writing style would be informal/journalistic (not academic) and would focus on the need for change rather than focusing on a specific system. Basic media training will be provided.
It is important that the role-holder is comfortable with working with people from other political parties (e.g. Labour or Green party) as the campaign for PR is cross-party and many Action Days take place under the cross-party banner of Make Votes Matter with representation from these and other parties. The time commitment for the role is expected to be approxiately 4 hours per month, but will vary with more activity in the 3 months with an Action Day and very little in other months.
If you are interested in this volunteer role, please write to us, giving a brief introduction to yourself and your relevant experience, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
At LDER we use our online channels to connect with our members and supporters, to keep the broader Liberal Democrat family up to date on news and opportunities for campaign action, and to connect with our cross-party allies. We're looking for someone who can support our digital communications to help us advance our goals!
This is an opportunity for someone who is passionate about electoral and broader democratic reform to work hand in hand with our small executive team, by supporting with:
- Developing online content for our website, e-newsletter and social media channels
- Leading digital campaign activations, e.g. our recent campaign to fight the government's Elections Bill
- Managing and promoting online events for members and supporters
- Growing our following on social media, including supporting reciprocal engagement with our cross-party allies
- Capturing and repackaging our live event content for online channels e.g. Make Votes Matter action days or Liberal Democrat Conference events
We're looking for someone with experience of channel management and online content creation. Get in touch by writing to email@example.com if you're interested!
There is also a one-off task - by Autumn, the party will migrate its online tools, including website and member management. If you can assist with that transition, that will be great!
Video editing and publishing manager
We need support in editing and posting videos of the great work we do - interviews with our leading MPs; records of grassroots campaigning days for posting online (we have a YouTube account). This is an occasional, opportunity-driven volunteer role - though one with great potential for new ideas and initiatives. Write to firstname.lastname@example.org with a brief introduction to yourself and stating your relevant experience.
JOIN US - DONATE TODAY
As well as expanding the team, LDER requires funding in order to make an impact. We are aiming to produce fresh campaign literature, both for party members and for national cross-party campaign days to reach new target groups. This doesn't come cheap, unfortunately.
We exist solely on the generosity of our members and donors who, like us, want to see the UK have a genuinely democratic political system, where everyone's vote counts equally and we get the governments we vote for.
Join us today by making an annual donation of minimum £10 (£5 concessions) at https://lder.org/en/donate
Upgrading our campaigning capabilities - whether print or online - is absolutely necessary to the success of our cause. This has increased the demands on our finances; we get no grants or guaranteed financial support. It is our members and supporters who sustain our effort.
We appreciate all your support, whether in spreading the message about electoral reform, volunteering or by helping to finance the campaign. Thank you for being part of the campaign.
If you are able to donate, please go to https://lder.org/en/donate
Finally - We are having to make some changes to the renewals process for members who have subscribed until now by Nationwide Society Standing Order.
If you subscribe by Nationwide standing order and haven't received an individual email from us by July 31, please write to email@example.com so that we can send you the relevant information.
Thank you to you all for supporting us. Reform is closer at hand than perhaps ever before. With your help, we can make it happen this time.
