Our allies
Winning electoral reform will take collaboration across political parties and between organisations. That's why LDER works closely with a range of other electoral reform campaign organisations. Some of our key allies are:
The Electoral Reform Society
Founded in 1884, the Electoral Reform Society is an independent campaigning organisation working to champion the rights of voters and build a better democracy in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. They make the case for lasting political reforms, seek to embed democracy into the heart of public debate, and foster the democratic spaces which encourage active citizenship.

Unlock Democracy
Unlock Democracy argues and campaigns for a vibrant, inclusive democracy that puts power in the hands of the people. They are aiming in particular for a democratic participative process resulting in a written constitution that serves and protects the people.

Make Votes Matter
Make Votes Matter is a single-issue campaign for Proportional Representation in the House of Commons and encourages all parties, candidates and MPs to support PR. It also hosts PR 'Alliance' meetings as a for reaching out to reformers; and has an extensive network of local activists.

Compass
Originally a branch of the Labour Party, Compass is now a cross-party organisation with a Liberal Democrat members 'chapter'. Compass campaigns for broad based social reforms, and has voting reform as a key priority.

Fair Vote
Fair Vote is a campaign organisation focused on strengthening the UK's democratic integrity through a modernised and resilient political system. Since its formation in 2018, It has worked on democratic reform, campaigning transparency, and digital regulation, including via the APPG on Electoral Campaigning Transparency in the last Parliament. Fair Vote also led cross-party opposition to the Elections Act 2023.
Fair Vote is the secretariat for the new APPG for Fair Elections (to be launched in October 2024), which brings together three key objectives:
- • Replacing First Past the Post with a proportional system that makes seats match votes
- • Eliminating dark money and undemocratic influence from politics.
- • Countering disinformation in public discourse.
This will be a dynamic, campaigning APPG that acts as a bridge between parliamentary organising and external campaigns. To achieve this, Fair Vote will receieve operational support from Open Britain (joint authors of the Functional Democracy Goals report in September 2023); and in close collaboration with democracy organisations including the Electoral Reform Society, Make Votes Matter, Unlock Democracy and Compass.
