Council decides to keep discriminatory voting system

29 Oct 2024

Following a public consultation during the summer, an extraordinary council meeting was held last week to decide on whether to adopt Single Transferable Vote (STV - our preferred system) for Gwynedd council elections.

The consultation results were very clear: nearly three-in-four respondents wanted change. However, councillors decided to ignore them: the vote, which required a two-thirds majority to pass, was lost by an agonising single vote.

You can see the agenda and documents of the extraordinary meeting as well as watch the debate on the council's website.
