Welsh Lib Dems Push for Senedd Reform

The proposal to use d’Hondt Closed Lists for the reformed Senedd is disgraceful. Over six years of careful consideration, leading to the proposal to use the Single Transferable Vote (STV), were ditched overnight in a stitch-up between Labour and Plaid Cymru.

It is particularly disappointing from Plaid who have been steady in their support of STV over the years.

I said what I thought of this in the recent consultation – https://business.senedd.wales/documents/s141750/SCMEP28%20-%20Denis%20Mollison.pdf

It is good that Jane Dodds is on the relative Senedd committee. I hope the proposal may yet be amended at least to allow open list voting (as in e.g., Finland), and a commitment to review the system once it has been used in practice.

The d'Hondt Closed List proposal will be unpopular with voters.
